Job summary

Family Dollar in Portsmouth, VA is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations, customer service, and team development. You will assist with daily store activities, help customers, organize merchandise, and help supervise and train store associates.

The role requires strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, plus the ability to lift up to 55 lbs and work in a fast-paced retail environment. This is a full-time position based at our Portsmouth store.

Qualifications

• Must have relevant retail management exposure and ability to direct store activities.
• Experience in grocery/retail environments is preferred.
• Strong customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns
• Help organize, and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed
• Maintain payroll, scheduling, and cash handling records; support loss prevention
• Maintain a clean, well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom
