Job Title: Assistant Manager

Reports To: Store Manager

Summary

The Assistant Manager assists and consults the Store Manager on overall operations and administrative duties, determining methods and approaches needed to accomplish the store’s goals. The Assistant Manager is knowledgeable in each product area, upholds policies and procedures, and provides outstanding customer service and promotion of merchandise. When required, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control in the Manager’s absence and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Store Manager in controlling the assets of the store.
  • Consult the Store Manager in establishing action plans to accomplish departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
  • Assume responsibility of the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Assist the Store Manager in overall personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
  • Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
  • Be aware of inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability in all departments.
  • Direct staff to ensure each department’s responsibilities and standards are completed.
  • Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
  • Assure quality customer service is maintained.
  • Perform general administrative duties as needed and be trained in the Manager’s responsibilities.
  • Produce and give extraordinary customer service highlighted in the customer service manual, including helping customers as they enter the store and assisting multiple customers during peak periods.
  • Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by the store.
  • Practice and uphold all company policies, procedures, and standards as listed in the operations, personnel, visual, customer service manuals, and company memos.
  • Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and informing management of potential fraud risk.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems.

Qualifications
  • Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
  • 1–3 years of customer service experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
  • Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with precision.
  • Team‑player, passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
