Job summary

Brookshire Grocery Company is seeking a capable store operations leader to oversee fresh perimeter departments, including bakery, deli, produce, and market. You will drive product quality, safety, inventory control and customer service while executing merchandising plans and meeting sales objectives.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in training partners, and the ability to analyze data to forecast demand and optimize profitability.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a related field and 2+ years of related experience.
  • Must obtain HIPAA certification within 2 weeks of starting.
  • Must obtain Tobacco/Alcohol certification (where applicable) within 2 weeks.
  • Must obtain Manager Food Safety certification within 2 weeks.
  • Must obtain AML certification within 2 weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train and develop partners; plan, assign and direct work.
  • Ensure effective training across supervised departments.
  • Forecast sales by reviewing historical data and promotions.
  • Manage inventory to maintain in‑stock levels.
  • Review P&L, sales, shrink, and labor data with senior mgmt.
  • Maintain store standards, safety and customer service.
  • Open and close the store as needed.
  • Ensure store is clean, staffed and presentable.
  • Enforce food safety standards and rotate dated products.
  • Review planograms and execute merchandising plans.
  • Ensure accurate pricing and signage.
  • Develop and implement loss prevention initiatives.
  • Support short‑term objectives aligned with banner strategies.
  • Assist in store operations and expense management.

Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for managing fresh perimeter departments, including bakery, deli, produce, and market. Ensures quality of product, food and physical safety, and inventory stock levels. Oversees execution of merchandising plans, ensures adherence to company standards and procedures, manages achievement of store sales and profits using acceptable business practices, and promotes customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carrying out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining partners; and scheduling, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Ensuring effective training of partners within the departments under their supervision.
  • Reviewing historical data to predict future sales from ads and promotions.
  • Managing inventory using item management processes to ensure satisfactory in‑stock levels.
  • Reviewing profit and loss, sales, shrink, and labor data; providing verbal or written summary to upper management regarding any related issues.
  • Maintaining and improving sales performance, cash flow, public relations, product quality, and work standards.
  • Frequently required to open/close the store.
  • Ensuring the store is presentable for the customer shopping experience; making certain adequate staff is available; ensuring safety, responsiveness, and fiscal management of cash and monetary assets.
  • Enforcing quality control and food safety standards throughout multiple departments and ensuring dated products are stocked and rotated properly.
  • Maintaining cooler and freezer organization.
  • Verifying consistent adherence to proper cooking and holding temperatures in alignment with food safety standards.
  • Conducting store inspections and taking appropriate action to ensure store conditions adhere to company standards.
  • Reviewing planograms and executing effective merchandising plans to increase sales through displays, store layouts, and category management promotions.
  • Ensuring price and signage accuracy.
  • Developing and implementing initiatives and strategies for loss prevention and shrink reduction.
  • Planning short‑term strategic objectives aligned with supporting banner strategies, anticipating problems, and revising plans to account for changing circumstances.
  • Assisting in the direction of store operations and management of operating expenses to maximize cash flow, EBITDA, sales, gross margin, and net profit.
  • Promoting and maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to company safety procedures.
  • Displaying exemplary customer service and acting as a role model for partners; enacting customer engagement standards by greeting customers, answering questions, and responding to customer complaints.
  • Checking inventory on trucks, unloading products, and ensuring accuracy of inventory, product ordering, and associated paperwork.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of retail grocery store operations.
  • Intermediate understanding of company checkout policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate knowledge and compliance of state laws regarding the sale of alcohol, tobacco, and lottery, as applicable.
  • Intermediate knowledge of anti‑money laundering and other government regulations relating to monetary transactions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of cash register.
  • Intermediate knowledge of on‑site fuel station procedures, if applicable.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (in written and verbal form) with customers and partners.
  • Ability to remain professional and courteous with customers at all times.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to carry out short‑term strategic objectives aligned with company initiatives.

  • Ability to safely work with sharp objects such as knives, box cutters, etc.
  • Ability to operate manual or electric pallet jack.
  • Ability to work variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years of age required.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field and two or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Must obtain Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification through Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role.
  • Must obtain Tobacco/Alcohol certification (TABC/LACT/AATC/ABLE) through Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role where applicable.
  • Must obtain Manager Food Safety certification through Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role.
  • Must obtain Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) certification through Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role.
Physical Demands
