Goodwill of the Heartland is looking for a full-time Assistant Store Manager. Assistant Store Managers (ASMs) offer opportunities for leadership development. The position supports the retail team in providing excellent customer service to shoppers, donors, and team members. ASMs guide their team in how to maintain an attractive, inviting store, with neatly merchandised and reasonably priced products. This position will require one year of full-time employment in a related field, with former supervisory experience preferred.
The ASM also assists the Store Manager in the training of team members, completing documentation and other records, and ensuring the safety of the team and Goodwill customers. The ASM is responsible for providing supervision for the staff in the absence of the Store Manager.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain an example for all store workers by providing excellent customer service to retail customers, donor customers, telephone customers, client customers, and internal Goodwill customers.
- Assist in maintaining an attractive, inviting, visually appealing store which is fully replenished, neatly merchandised, and free of clutter.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, neat, and organized store featuring a clean exterior and interior, including parking lots, retail space, donation areas, dressing rooms and rest rooms, ensuring that regular and necessary janitorial duties and maintenance are completed.
- Assist in completing and submitting records and reports on workers accurately and on a timely basis.
- Assist in monthly store team meetings to discuss and seek input on store operations and retail training, and to report on retail and Goodwill issues. Submit necessary meeting report(s).
- Assist in the monthly safety meetings, emergency drills, and facility inspections. Complete and submit necessary paperwork and reports on a timely basis.
- Assist in scheduling store workers to ensure adequate coverage during all hours of operation, also ensuring that schedules are equitably and reasonably rotated. Submit schedules as required.
- Provide supervision to staff in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Provide back-up client supervision and support as needed (if applicable).
- Assist in recording of statistical information concerning incoming donations, in-store production, inventory, sales, etc. Submit required records on a timely basis.
- Assist in monitoring and optimizing in-store production (including salvage items) and inventory.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity in operating the cash register. Assist in ensuring that cash control policies are enforced.
- Assist in ensuring that deposits and Store Reports are completed accurately and in the required time-frame.
- Assist in monitoring and controlling expenses to ensure efficiency in all store operations.
- Work in conjunction with the Retail Job Trainer (if applicable) to assist in identifying and providing retail training opportunities for clients, and assist in determining client production needs for the store.
- Work in conjunction with the Training Specialist to assist in identifying and providing training opportunities for store staff and temporary employees.
- Assist in developing merchandising and marketing strategies including social media, store layout, displays, and in-store promotions.
- Open and close store at scheduled times.
- Receive material donated at the store, processing items for in-store use and organizing material to be shipped to the warehouse

Qualifications
- One year of full-time employment in a related field. Former supervisory experience preferred.
- Availability for day, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Successful completion of background screening: valid Iowa driver's license, auto insurance, motor vehicle record, and criminal background check.
An Assistant Store Manager has a starting wage of
$15.76 per hour, and this position is also eligible for incentive pay based on store performance. The ASM position will require a rotating schedule of morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts based on store needs.
