Job summary

Subdued is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Store Manager for our Flatiron location in New York. You will work closely with the Store Manager to drive store performance, lead the team on the sales floor, and deliver a high-quality Subdued customer experience.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of fashion retail experience, including at least one year in a supervisory or leadership position.

The Role

Subdued is looking for an enthusiastic and fashion-driven Assistant Store Manager to join the team at our Flatiron location.

Working closely with the Store Manager, you will help lead the team, drive store performance, and bring the Subdued world to life for every customer. You will be a hands-on leader on the sales floor, combining strong commercial awareness with an instinct for trends, styling, and meaningful customer connections.

The ideal candidate is positive, intuitive, organized, and excited to inspire both customers and team members in a fast-paced international fashion environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Store Manager to oversee daily operations and achieve the store’s sales, service, and productivity goals.
• Lead by example on the sales floor, delivering an engaging, friendly, and personalized Subdued customer experience.
• Build genuine connections with customers and help them explore their individual style through confident product and styling recommendations.
• Coach, motivate, and develop the store team through regular feedback, product knowledge, and on-the-floor training.
• Communicate daily targets and business priorities clearly while creating a positive and collaborative team environment.
• Monitor sales results and key performance indicators, identifying opportunities to improve conversion, average transaction value, units per transaction, and productivity.
• Maintain Subdued’s visual identity through strong merchandising, product presentation, replenishment, and store organization.
• Stay informed about new collections, current trends, best sellers, and customer preferences.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and employee development.
• Assist with inventory management, deliveries, transfers, stockroom organization, and cycle counts.
• Follow all cash-handling, opening and closing, safety, security, and loss-prevention procedures.
• Resolve customer concerns thoughtfully and professionally.
• Serve as manager on duty when the Store Manager is unavailable.
• Support store events, collection launches, and local initiatives that strengthen the Subdued community.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of fashion retail experience, including at least one year in a supervisory or leadership position.
• Genuine interest in fashion, styling, youth culture, and current trends.
• Strong commercial awareness and a proven ability to support sales growth.
• Passion for delivering a welcoming and memorable customer experience.
• Confident leadership, coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Positive attitude with the ability to motivate and connect with a young, dynamic team.
• Strong organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt quickly and remain composed in a busy retail environment.
• Experience with point-of-sale systems, inventory processes, visual merchandising, and retail performance metrics.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak retail periods.
• Ability to perform the physical responsibilities associated with a retail environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
