Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT role and includes additional high-level duties specific to that position, though most responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service

  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, and provide legendary service to each Guest
  • Answer questions regarding store and merchandise confidently
  • Help Guests locate or obtain merchandise based on their needs and desires
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing that knowledge with the Team
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices
  • Consistently meet personal sales goals and look for opportunities to impact Teammates’ presentations
  • Achieve sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store, including Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area
  • Understand and execute exchange and return procedures effectively
  • Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in business builders and guest loyalty programs
  • Expand Guest selection using inventory management tools and apps
  • Build and maintain good Guest relationships to develop a client-based business
  • Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness
  • Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team
  • Ask business-driven questions regularly to Managers and Teammates
  • Be coachable, welcoming feedback to improve sales presentations
  • Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards consistently
  • Plan and execute sales goals with Store Manager
  • Take ownership of store’s sales performance
  • Show passion for product education and showmanship to generate results

Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development

  • Recognize recruiting opportunities using various tools and referrals
  • Coach and develop relationships through Guest Loyalty programs
  • Lead, motivate, and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards
  • Maintain a positive attitude and create a positive floor culture
  • Demonstrate personal dress code to promote current fashion trends
  • Participate in daily setup, training, and reviews using the Performance Tracker
  • Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
  • Demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card results
  • Create results within your department and support all actions
  • Execute departmental actions and delegate effectively
  • Lead and update the team during segments
  • Engage guests with product
  • Remember and use Guest names effectively
  • Understand and demonstrate merchandise for both Gals and Guys’ sides
  • Assist Store Manager with store education focus and delegate tasks
  • Support all segments to meet business goals
  • Participate in store staffing recruitment
  • Explain pay and benefits to Teammates
  • Maintain contact lists and recruit top talent
  • Train on the Leadership Playbook and other tools
  • Ensure all non-sales training needs are addressed

Visual Merchandise Management

  • Own product zones, recognize and assign zones and projects
  • Demonstrate new tools and videos related to zone ownership
  • Delegate and review zones with the Store Manager
  • Ensure Teammates follow visual standards and checklists
  • Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate solutions
  • Conduct informational store tours
  • Maintain store’s visual standards and product displays
  • Anticipate product changes and improve visual results independently

Operations

  • Work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Complete opening and closing checklists
  • Recognize security risks and theft, and handle situations appropriately
  • Follow Loss Prevention guidelines
  • Handle POS procedures confidently
  • Communicate with Corporate Office effectively
  • Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
  • Follow policies for payments, returns, and exchanges
  • Navigate and utilize store tools effectively
  • Maintain a clean, organized store environment
  • Report concerns and violations promptly
  • Adhere to Buckle’s Code of Ethics and policies
  • Complete all scheduled shifts and cover shifts as needed
  • Assist with merchandise handling and inventory management
  • Handle emergencies in the Store Manager’s absence

Supervisory and Leadership

  • Give and receive feedback professionally
  • Support leadership and promote growth
  • Maintain professional relationships with Teammates
  • Conduct interviews and support team development
  • Overcome objections and solve problems
  • Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge

  • Travel and cover other stores if needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in supervising.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED; 1-3 months related retail experience; or equivalent.

Physical Demands

Regularly stand, walk, handle merchandise, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and occasionally sit. Must be able to lift and maneuver 50lbs. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustments.

Work Environment

Work primarily in a retail store setting with moderate noise levels.
