This position is responsible for engaging employees and leadership to provide the best possible shopping experience for customers. It involves assessing the financial results of the store, implementing and executing appropriate business strategies to drive store profitability, and upholding cultural standards and values through effective communication. The role also includes identifying, developing, and promoting talent within the store.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Evaluate P&L budget goals, designing and implementing labor and margin plans for store departments.
  • Review sales, supply costs, and stock loss/shrink results; develop goals to improve profitability and bottom-line results.
  • Design department merchandise plans, including product ordering, assortments, displays, and pricing.
  • Lead performance management activities for hourly leaders and employees, including pay increases, performance ratings, and career development.
  • Identify and collaborate with local vendors to source local products, determining quantities, frequency, and pricing.
  • Make key employee decisions regarding hiring, investigations, discipline, and terminations.
  • Lead training and development, including new employee orientations and on-the-job training.
  • Supervise a minimum of one hourly leader and three employees during shifts.
  • Plan and communicate weekly department schedules based on business needs.
  • Organize store events, community engagement, and employee involvement.
  • Establish standards for product freshness and store operations.
  • Communicate daily with the team, sharing financial performance, customer feedback, and store updates.
  • Foster open communication during team problem solving and change management.
  • Implement store changes to stay current with retail trends.
  • Manage store operations in the absence of the store manager, typically two to three times per week.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 4-5 years of retail/grocery experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Experience in merchandising, team leadership, and ordering.
  • Ability to manage store operations effectively.
  • High-profile, high-caliber professional.
  • Expertise in seasonal and ethnic merchandising.
  • Ability to create a farmer’s market feel.
  • Creative thinking and adaptability to business needs.
  • Self-starter with strong business ownership skills.
  • Understanding of supermarket math, gross margin, and pricing strategies.
  • Ability to manage retail costs effectively.
  • Developing teams to meet service, presentation, sales, and margin goals.
  • Knowledge of COOL labeling, inventory control, and seasonal merchandising.
