Overview
The Job in a Nutshell: The Assistant Store Manager is the second in command and responsible for the store's successful operation and profitability. Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities:
- Greet and service customers per company standards of World Class customer service.
- Provide professional leadership as a manager.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately and according to company policy.
- Create an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensure products customers want are in stock.
- Handle special orders per company policy.
- Answer phone calls per standards and spend at least 75% of time on the sales floor assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments.
- Train staff to provide exemplary customer service and ensure accountability.
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registrations.
- Meet and/or exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour ratio, average ticket, customer count, COGS for produce, and EBITDA.
- Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins and receive appropriate discounts.
- Maintain in-stock conditions meeting company standards.
- Monitor product mix, analyze departments regularly, and introduce new products as per policy.
- Rotate and stock perishables properly.
- Manage markdowns per standards.
- Assist in hiring, training, and managing store personnel.
- Train staff, assign tasks, and ensure tasks are accomplished.
- Maintain accurate and timely schedules and use company task sheets.
- Partner with department managers for staff sharing and cross-training.
- Ensure staff has sufficient product knowledge to meet customer needs.
- Assist in performance evaluations and wage increases with input from department managers.
- Participate in hiring and disciplinary processes.
- Maintain clear communication, conduct staff meetings, and post company info.
- Follow safety guidelines at all times.
- Ensure timely updates of Ulti-time edits.
- Support store personnel training, coaching, and development.
- Encourage staff to increase nutritional and product knowledge.
- Answer customer questions per standards, including nutritional support statements.
- Complete daily operational responsibilities and store paperwork timely.
- Respond to departmental calls and assist with coverage as needed.
- Manage disruptions like loiterers, solicitations, weather emergencies, and bathroom misuse.
- Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, for 45 hours per week.
- Support decisions made by the home office and follow communications.
- Lead by example, setting standards of excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or retail, natural foods industry a plus.
- Ability to manage changing priorities.
- Ability to pass food safety training and obtain certifications as required.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain up-to-date food safety certifications through continuing education.
- Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Must be cashier trained.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
