The Job in a Nutshell:
The Assistant Store Manager is the second person in charge of the store and is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the store, including training, directing, and monitoring all department staff.
Responsibilities
Main Ingredients:
- Greet and service customers per company standards of World Class customer service.
- Provide professional leadership for staff as expected of all company managers.
- Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy.
- Maintain an inviting and shoppable store environment.
- Ensure products customers want to buy are in-stock.
- Handle special orders appropriately and per company policy.
- Answer phones per company standards and spend at least 75% of time assisting customers, directing staff, and attending to all departments.
- Train staff on exemplary customer service and hold staff accountable.
- Ensure staff compliance with applicable food safety certifications and registration.
- Meet or exceed expectations in sales, sales per labor hour ratio, average ticket, customer count, cost of goods sold, and EBITDA.
- Order products from correct vendors to maintain margins and receive correct discounts.
- Maintain in-stock conditions per standards and monitor product mix, including analysis of departments, managing slow movers, and introducing new products.
- Ensure perishables are rotated and stocked properly, manage markdowns, and assist in hiring, training, and managing store personnel.
- Assist in scheduling, cross-training staff, and ensuring adequate product knowledge among staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations, assist in wage increases, and participate in hiring decisions.
- Address performance and disciplinary issues with HR support.
- Maintain clear communication, conduct staff meetings, and post company information.
- Follow safety guidelines at all times.
- Ensure timely updates of Ulti-time edits and complete operational responsibilities daily.
- Complete store paperwork and reports promptly, including the Monthly Manager's Report.
- Assist with coverage during breaks and manage disruptions like loiterers or weather emergencies.
- Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings and weekends, around 45 hours per week.
- Support company decisions, follow communications, and remain flexible to changing work demands.
- Lead by example, setting standards of excellence and professionalism.

Qualifications
Recipe for Success:
- High school diploma or GED required; 1-2 years management experience in grocery or related retail, natural foods industry a plus.
- Ability to manage changing priorities.
- Pass applicable food safety training and obtain certifications as required by law.
- Must be able to obtain forklift certification.
- Maintain food safety certifications through continuing education and stay registered with the appropriate agencies.
- Highly organized with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
- Must be cashier trained.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
