Responsibilities and Qualifications

As Assistant Store Team Leader at Pet Supplies Plus, you're pawsitively passionate about people and their pets. Providing exceptional, neighborly service at every opportunity, you will:

  • Help your store team by example – including greeting neighbors and their new puppies when they enter the store.
  • Recognize the local pug rescue coordinator and offer to host the next adoption event.
  • Join the conversation when assisting neighbors in choosing between natural dog food brands.
  • Analyze store sales results and develop plans to maximize sales, neighbor engagement, and productivity in partnership with the Store Team Leader.
  • Create a fun, positive environment for the team and neighbors, fostering a reputation for neighborly, knowledgeable, trustworthy, pet-centric service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in operational management of the store.
  • Adhering to operational policies and procedures (cleanliness, animal care, safety, and security).
  • Promoting team member engagement and morale through understanding individual motivation, recognizing performance, and helping team members achieve career goals.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and maintaining a fully staffed team.
  • Providing onboarding, development, coaching, and feedback to team members.
  • Partnering with community organizations for events and marketing opportunities.

Qualifications for Assistant Store Team Leader include:

  • 2+ years of retail team leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; high school diploma/GED required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and good communication skills.
  • Ability to operate equipment including forklifts, and to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexible schedule, reliable transportation, ability to pass drug test, and 18+ years old.
