The Assistant Bakery Operations Manager (ABOM) is a leadership pipeline role designed to develop the next generation of Bakery Operations Managers. ABOMs are expected to operate at near-BOM level, executing bakery operations with urgency, accuracy, and accountability while building the leadership skills needed to run a bakery independently. This role blends hand‑on operational excellence with talent development, administrative ownership, and team leadership. ABOMs act as a true extension of the BOM and must be capable of stepping into full bakery ownership when needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operational Execution
  • Execute all core bakery operations including inventory rotation, scheduling support, staffing coordination, and administrative checklists
  • Maintain strict adherence to product quality, cleanliness, food safety, and guest experience standards
  • Support ordering, inventory accuracy, and shrink control
  • Assist in schedule creation and labor execution to meet operational targets
  • Talent & Team Development
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new staff
  • Deliver consistent coaching and real‑time performance feedback
  • Hold team members accountable to standards while reinforcing a growth mindset culture
  • Ensure onboarding and training programs are executed to company standards
  • Leadership & Ownership
  • Manage bakery operations independently in the absence of the BOM
  • Model urgency, accountability, and operational discipline
  • Partner with BOM and Area leadership to identify operational gaps and implement solutions
  • Maintain continuity of operations during leadership transitions or staffing shortages
  • Other duties as assigned
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
  • Able to independently execute all BOM-level administrative and operational tasks
  • Bakery is fully staffed, trained, and operating at high standards
  • Strong culture of accountability and consistency
  • Acts as a reliable operational leader during any coverage scenario
  • Demonstrates clear readiness and upward mobility toward a BOM role
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • 1+ year leadership experience in restaurant, retail, or hospitality operations
  • Strong operational discipline and attention to detail
  • Ability to coach and develop hourly team members
  • Comfortable working in fast‑paced, high‑volume environments
  • Ability to perform all bakery roles during peak business periods
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
SWEET POSITION PERKS:
  • Competitive pay + bonus eligibility
  • Medical, dental, vision & pet insurance
  • Paid vacation + wellness days
  • Career development pipeline into BOM leadership
  • Free cookies every shift
  • Fun, fast‑paced team culture
ABOUT THE ROLE:

At Insomnia Cookies, warm is more than how we serve our cookies—it’s how we show up for our guests, our teams, and each other.

As an Assistant Bakery Operations Manager (ABOM), you’ll help bring that to life every day by working side‑by‑side with your Bakery Operations Manager to build an energized, well‑trained team, create unforgettable guest experiences, and keep the bakery running at its best. You’ll coach and develop people, jump in wherever you’re needed, and take real ownership of the details that make a great bakery great—from staffing and inventory to quality, cleanliness, and execution. And when the BOM isn’t there, you’ll be ready to step up and lead.

This role is built for someone who wants more than an assistant manager job: it’s an opportunity to learn the business, grow as a leader, and develop the skills and confidence to one day run an Insomnia bakery of your own.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Partner with your BOM to lead day‑to‑day bakery operations and deliver an exceptional guest experience.
  • Lead the bakery independently when the BOM is away, keeping the team focused and operations running smoothly.
  • Coach, motivate, and develop Shift Leaders and Cookie Crew members through real‑time feedback, recognition, and support.
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training to build a strong, fully staffed team.
  • Help create schedules and manage labor to meet the needs of the bakery and the business.
  • Support ordering, inventory management, product rotation, and shrink control.
  • Maintain high standards for product quality, food safety, cleanliness, speed of service, and overall bakery execution.
  • Complete required operational and administrative tasks accurately and on time.
  • Identify opportunities to improve bakery performance and partner with your BOM and Area leadership to put solutions into action.
  • Help create a culture where team members know what’s expected, feel supported, and are accountable for delivering their best.
  • Jump in wherever needed—from serving guests and baking cookies to supporting the team during our busiest hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1+ year of leadership experience in retail, restaurant, hospitality, or another customer-focused environment.
  • Experience coaching, motivating, and developing hourly team members.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
  • A hands‑on leadership style and willingness to jump into any bakery role when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple operational priorities.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences and building great teams.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to obtain any required food safety certifications applicable to the location.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours per shift).
  • Frequently reach, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, and lift.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle bakery equipment, food products, and a point‑of‑sale system.
  • Work in environments with varying temperatures, including around ovens, freezers, and refrigeration units.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Read order screens, recipes, and safety information.
  • Communicate effectively with guests and team members in a fast‑paced environment.
Work Environment

This position works in a fast‑paced bakery environment that includes frequent interaction with guests, exposure to heat from ovens, refrigerated storage areas, cleaning chemicals, and moderate noise levels. Evening, late‑night, weekend, and holiday shifts are a regular part of the business.

Schedule Expectations

Our bakeries are busiest during evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Team Members should have availability during these peak business hours. Scheduling needs vary by location.
