The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties specific to that role, though most responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, and consistently provide legendary service
  • Answer questions regarding store and merchandise confidently
  • Help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs and desires
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing this knowledge with the team
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices
  • Consistently meet personal sales goals and look for opportunities to improve team presentation
  • Achieve sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management
  • Provide legendary service across all store areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register
  • Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures and turn them into showmanship opportunities
  • Utilize the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to meet goals
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business metrics
  • Expand Guest selection through inventory management and product search tools
  • Build and maintain good Guest relationships to develop a client-based business
  • Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness
  • Recognize and communicate Guest Levels to the team
  • Ask business-driven and showmanship questions regularly
  • Be coachable, welcoming feedback to improve sales presentations
  • Perform leadership actions consistently, regardless of Manager presence
  • Collaborate with Store Manager to plan sales goals
  • Demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance and product education
Teammate Recruiting, Training, and Development
  • Recognize recruiting opportunities via various channels
  • Coach and develop relationships through Guest Loyalty programs
  • Lead, motivate, and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle standards
  • Maintain a positive attitude to foster a positive store culture
  • Demonstrate personal dress code and fashion trends
  • Participate in daily setup, training, and reviews using the Performance Tracker
  • Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
  • Show passion for denim showmanship and fit cards
  • Create results in your department and balance all DM actions
  • Execute department calendar actions and track progress
  • Engage guests with product demonstrations
  • Update fellow leaders and Team regularly
  • Remember and use Guest names effectively
  • Understand and showcase merchandise for both Gals and Guys’ sides
  • Partner with Store Manager to focus on store education and delegate accordingly
  • Assist in recruiting and explain pay and benefits to candidates
  • Maintain up-to-date contact lists and recruit top talent
  • Train and coach on the leadership playbook and characteristics
  • Execute zone ownership and visual standards diligently
  • Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations
  • Conduct store tours and ensure proper freight and display standards
  • Use the Performance Tracker to drive store performance improvements
  • Anticipate product changes and adapt visual displays accordingly
Operations
  • Work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Utilize planners and complete opening/closing checklists
  • Recognize security risks and follow Loss Prevention guidelines
  • Handle POS procedures and communicate with Corporate Office
  • Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
  • Follow policies for payments, returns, exchanges, and theft prevention
  • Navigate all store tools effectively
  • Complete shifts and cover shifts as needed
  • Keep the store clean, organized, and shoppable
  • Report merchandise or policy concerns appropriately
  • Complete all HR and store policies promptly
  • Support planning and execution of markdowns, freight, and inventory tasks
  • Build relationships with Corporate Departments for store operations
  • Handle emergencies in the absence of the Store Manager
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Give and receive feedback professionally
  • Support leadership initiatives and promote store growth
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all Teammates
  • Conduct interviews and support team development
  • Overcome objections and problem solve effectively
  • Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge

Education and Experience

Physical Demands
