Learn the operations of all departments and the duties of store management; share responsibility for store performance in all areas of operation/human resources. Perform scheduling, security, maintenance, safety, sanitation, ordering, administration & Human Resource-related duties. Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1 year of experience as department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
  • Store manager/district manager or direct manager approval

Desired qualifications:

  • Retail management experience & knowledge of all aspects of store operations
  • Staff supervisory experience

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist store manager & associates in creating a positive customer shopping experience and develop associate interest in customer service to enhance Kroger's reputation.
  • Lead teams in planning, implementing & executing merchandising and operational initiatives.
  • Develop action plans and communicate results to staff based on survey feedback.
  • Identify store opportunities, develop solutions, and ensure implementation.
  • Maintain high customer service standards and resolve issues.
  • Manage store operations in the absence of the store manager.
  • Achieve sales, wage, profit, safety, and other targeted goals.
  • Drive sales and profits by working with department managers, reducing shrink, and improving departmental contributions.
  • Discuss financial performance and budgets with staff.
  • Analyze the competitive landscape and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Demonstrate inclusive leadership and promote diversity.
  • Ensure store departments meet sales and profit goals.
  • Build relationships with community organizations and union representatives if applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and serve as a liaison with management.
  • Assist in staffing, reducing turnover, and increasing retention.
  • Provide performance feedback and coaching.
  • Manage labor and supply costs to meet targets.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and policies.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports, including performance reviews.
