The Office of the Washington State Auditor seeks an Assistant State Auditor 4 in Tacoma to lead the largest or most complex audits of local and state government entities, planning, conducting, and documenting risk-based audit work. Mentorship and coaching of staff are key components of this role.

Assistant State Auditor 4 - Tacoma
INTERNAL ONLY

Under minimal supervision, serves as the Auditor-In-Charge of the largest and/or most complex financial or compliance audits of local and/or state government entities. Assumes full responsibility for the planning, conducting, and documentation of risk-based audits. Leads other staff assigned to the audit, makes work assignments, reviews workpapers, and provides mentoring and coaching to develop the skills of assigned audit staff. Serving as a mentor for assigned staff training them on all aspects of risk-based auditing. Ensuring they have a strong understanding of the goals and provides feedback to the AAM and Manager regarding staff development.

Ensures assigned audits are planned and performed under comprehensive national performance standards including:

  • Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
  • Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (GAGAS),
  • the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-133
  • Audits of State and Local Government, and SAO Audit Policies
  • Audits must be of a quality to pass internal Quality Control Reviews, and National Peer Review.
