Job summary

Office of the Washington State Auditor (SAO) is seeking Assistant State Auditors I-III for Team School Programs on a temporary, internal basis. The role supports school district audits and related general fund work, with an emphasis on training and progression through ASA levels.

Positions are typically filled at ASA 1 or ASA 2, with ASA 3 focusing on planning and conducting risk-based financial and legal compliance audits for state agencies and local governments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three college-level accounting courses.
• Option 2 allows substitution with experience, total 4+ years in business with at least 1 year in accounting/auditing.
• Option 3 is any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and conducting risk-based financial & legal compliance audits.
• Assist in client discussions and presentations under supervision.
• Mentor in-training staff and support audit leads.
