Job summary

SSC Services for Education, part of Compass Group, is seeking a Grounds/Fields Technician to maintain football practice facilities and stadiums in Tampa. You will support the Grounds Manager, coordinate daily field operations, and ensure safe, attractive fields for practices, games, and events.

The role requires an Associate's degree in turf/related field and 3+ years in athletic field management, with a preference for a Bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Turfgrass Management or related field is required.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years in athletic field, sports turf, golf course, or grounds management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement maintenance schedules for Football Practice Facility areas.
• Support Grounds Manager in maintaining athletic fields to NCAA/NFHS standards.
• Coordinate daily field operations for practices, games, and events.
• Maintain communications with coaches, staff, and vendors about field needs.
• Assist in developing and managing annual operate budgets for grounds.
• Track expenditures, labor, pesticides, fertilizer, irrigation, and inventory.
• Coordinate football stadium setups, game markings, logos, and post-event breakdown.
• Help plan field renovation projects like sod, laser grading, and drainage upgrades.
• Support emergency plans for severe weather and other disruptions.
• Ensure compliance with safety, procedures, and IPM sustainability practices.
• Train and supervise staff in turf practices, safety, and equipment use.
• Maintain records of pest monitoring, chemical applications, and regulatory activities.
• Operate and perform minor repairs on irrigation systems.

Education

Associate's degree in Turfgrass Management

Bachelor's degree preferred
