Job description

Overview

Under general direction, supervises staff performing Material Handling / Distribution contracted activities at client accounts. Delegates assignments to staff and monitors progress.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for Distribution/Logistics/Material Handling Department.
  2. Maintains daily communication with Sr. Material Handling/Distribution Manager and Area Manager.
  3. Keeps management informed of operational issues.
  4. Works with management to evaluate, research, and recommend solutions to Distribution management.
  5. Contacts and negotiates with outside vendors.
  6. Provides quality control on daily paperwork performed by OBS Staff.
  7. Delegates assignments to staff and monitors progress.
  8. Prioritizes, schedules, and delegates assignments to staff, ensuring standards are met.
  9. Ensures quality and productivity standards are maintained.
  10. Ensures proper maintenance and usage of all equipment and supplies.
  11. Interfaces with clients, operations teams, and corporate departments as needed.
  12. Initiates communication and problem-solving regarding customer concerns.
  13. Assists the Manager with HR policies, including performance evaluations, employee training, development, and motivation.
  14. Assists in recruiting new employees.
  15. Compiles weekly and monthly statistical data for reporting.
  16. Manages budget and controls expenses effectively.
  17. Assists with staff payroll, site billing, and service improvements.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing a staff of more than 10 non-exempt employees is a plus.
  • Experience motivating, training, coaching, and supervising staff to meet standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications (Lawson, Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with good time management skills.
  • Excellent customer service, professional attitude, and appearance.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, record-keeping, and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Physical activity including bending, reaching, lifting, and prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
