Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay is seeking an Assistant Site Coordinator for the Expanded Learning Program in Richmond, CA. You will work with the Site Coordinator to supervise children, plan activities, monitor attendance, and support communication with families after school.

You will help run daily operations, ensure safety guidelines are followed, and participate in trainings. Strong communication, teamwork, and dedication to youth development are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED; AA in early childhood development preferred.
  • Coursework to meet State of California licensing standards.
  • 2 years of previous experience in a professional child care or school aged program.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Site Coordinator in developing and implementing a creative program and age-appropriate activities in accordance with YMCA philosophies.
  • Responsible for the operation of the program in the absence of the Site Coordinator.
  • Maintain supervision and interact with assigned group/area at all times.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records in compliance with district regulations; compile forms, records and files requested by Site Coordinator or Program Director.
  • Maintain group behavioral limits following established program standards.
  • Comply with all safety guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in trainings offered by YMCA and other organizations.
  • Assist in preparation and serving snacks.
  • Assist in planning monthly activity calendar and staff trainings.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents of participants.
  • Lead with a positive example in conduct and communication, maintaining a healthy environment for participants.
  • Assist in maintenance of a clean and orderly program areas.
  • Report suspected child abuse per mandated reporting procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Description

We are seeking staff for our Expanded Learning Program. The hours immediately after school can be hugely impactful for kids, and our ELP staff provide meaningful enrichment programs to strengthen their academic, physical, and social-emotional growth. Successful team members are able to increase family engagement to support student learning, and bridge the communication between the school day and afterschool for families.

Position Summary

These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Assistant Site Coordinator works closely with the Site Coordinator to ensure the proper supervision of children and is responsible for planning and implementing a variety of recreational and educational activities which supports the children’s learning and promotes self-esteem in small group settings. This person shares with the Site Coordinator the responsibility for opening and/or closing the Program; assists with all attendance and data collection, supervises other staff in the absence of the Site Coordinator. In the absence of the Site Coordinator, the Assistant Site Coordinator is responsible for the smooth operation of the after school program.

  • Confer immediately with supervisor concerning suspected child abuse and follows mandated reporting procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
