Job summary

YMCA Expanded Learning is seeking Assistant Site Coordinators to lead a program serving about 100 students daily across elementary and middle school sites in Richmond and nearby communities. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll partner with a Site Coordinator, coach staff, supervise activities, and ensure a safe, engaging youth development environment while refining program quality and operations.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience working in youth development or youth programming.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• At least 48 completed college units or a passing score on the Instructional Aide Exam.
• DOJ/FBI background checks must be successfully completed.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire.
• Training is provided at no cost to you.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to program sites, meetings, and trainings as needed.
• Comfort with Google Drive, Airtable, Zoom and other program systems.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

• Start Date:Immediate
• Elementary School Pay:$27/hour
• Middle School Pay:$29/hour
• Elementary School Status:Full-Time, Non-Exempt | 40 hours/week
• Middle School Status:Part-Time, Non-Exempt | 28 hours/week
• Part-Time End Date:June 2027, with potential spring and summer break opportunities
• Schedule:Monday–Friday
• Typical Full-Time Hours:10:00 AM–6:30 PM
• Typical Part-Time Hours:12:45 PM–6:30 PM
• Locations:Elementary and middle school program sites in Richmond, El Sobrante, Pinole, San Pablo, and Oakland

For Full-Time Positions:

This is a year‑round position operating on a combined YMCA and school district calendar. Most work takes place during the school year, with additional scheduled programming when school is not in session. This typically includes district professional development days, one week during winter break, one week during spring break, and approximately 6–7 weeks of summer programming.

What You'll Do

As an Assistant Site Coordinator, you're more than an extra set of hands. You're a second leader at the site.

You'll partner closely with your Site Coordinator to keep the program organized, the team developing, and the student experience strong. You'll also be expected to step into leadership whenever the program needs you.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Partnering with the Site Coordinator to lead a high-quality program serving approximately 100 students each day
• Supporting the supervision, coaching, and development of your site's team members
• Stepping into the lead role when the Site Coordinator is unavailable
• Leading a student group when staffing or program needs require additional support
• Helping team members strengthen their facilitation, engagement, behavior management, and youth development practices
• Training and onboarding new team members so they are prepared to succeed
• Conducting observations and program quality assessments
• Using data, observations, and feedback to identify opportunities for program improvement
• Tracking program progress, outcomes, successes, and areas for continued growth
• Supporting day-to-day program operations and helping solve challenges as they arise
• Participating actively in meetings, trainings, coaching, and professional development
• Learning and applying effective practices in expanded learning, youth development, and program management
• Taking ownership of additional projects and responsibilities that strengthen the program
