General Summary & Scope

The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads the team in delivering sales growth in hair and skin services, supporting the Experience Manager (EM). Responsibilities include managing all aspects of the services business, including sales, guest satisfaction, operational excellence, and providing services to guests. The ASM focuses on performance, people, and process, requiring a results-driven approach, industry passion, and leadership skills.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The ASM demonstrates Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following key areas:

Performance
  • Perform salon services and product demonstrations for guests.
  • Achieve weekly individual productivity goals.
  • Promote a culture of accountability to meet sales, guest loyalty, payroll, and inventory goals.
  • Drive profitability through operational excellence and sales growth.
  • Support and execute service events to enhance guest experience and meet sales objectives.
  • Analyze financial and operational reports regularly to guide business strategies.
  • Address underperformance and develop improvement strategies.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and product knowledge.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and enforce the attendance policy.
People
  • Assist in attracting, hiring, and retaining diverse top talent.
  • Build a highly engaged team aligned with Ulta Beauty’s brand values.
  • Train, coach, and develop team members using company resources.
  • Create an inclusive environment that promotes growth and engagement.
  • Support professional development and succession planning.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with peers and brand partners.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Review and respond to company communications promptly.
  • Enforce dress code and manage inventory and supplies within budget.
  • Utilize task management tools to prioritize store tasks.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and technology adoption.
  • Assist in scheduling to optimize traffic and productivity.
Job Qualifications
Education
  • Cosmetology school graduate
  • Cosmetology license and/or management license as required by state law
Experience
  • 2-3+ years in salon management or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of state board regulations and hiring requirements
  • Experience in financial management, sales, and expense control
  • Leadership experience in attracting and motivating talent
Skills
  • Proficiency in salon techniques and aptitude to learn all service categories
  • Familiarity with technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change
Special Position Requirements
  • Flexible full-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Attendance at meetings and conferences
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, reach, lift up to 10 lbs, and manipulate objects during shift
  • Use of computers, phones, and office supplies regularly
