The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking an experienced, licensed attorney with a passion for public service, demonstrated commitment to protecting the rule of law, and an ability to effectively manage legal staff in a team environment to serve as the Assistant Section Chief of our Collections Enforcement Section. This position will work a hybrid remote/in-office schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad Street Columbus, Ohio.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Collections Enforcement Section is one of the nation’s largest premier government collection practices representing more than 300 state agencies, institutions, boards, commissions, public university hospitals, as well as numerous political subdivisions to resolve and collect delinquent debts. The second largest section in the Ohio Attorney General’s office, we are a fast-paced, high-volume practice that utilizes both internal staff, external vendors, and Special Counsel to recover a variety of debts such as taxes, fines, university debts, and economic development loans. Most debts we collect are subject to statutory offset programs which are managed by the section.
The successful candidate will assist the Section Chief with day-to-day operations including but not limited to providing advice and guidance to clients, Assistant Attorneys General and support staff. The Assistant Section Chief is a working litigator who possesses the experience, skills and knowledge to act as the lead counsel for a team of AAGs in higher profile, complex and fast paced matters in both federal and state courts. The Assistant Section Chief is also responsible for supervision of the support staff, to include paralegals, secretaries, and clerks. The successful candidate will also possess the ability and desire to both collaborate with and manage AAGs and support staff in a collegial environment.
Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code.
Preferred qualifications:
Prior experience in debtor-creditor law
Prior experience in bankruptcy and creditors' rights
Prior management or supervisory experience
Licensed in federal court
