Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid ServSafe Certification or approved sanitation credential.
• Food service/cafeteria experience preferred.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and procedures.
• Basic math skills (add/subtract/multiply/divide).
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand long periods.
• Able to work in varying temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Compute and adjust recipes and prepare food in correct quantities.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment (ovens, steamers, mixers, slicers, kettles, scales, POS).
• Follow Child Nutrition Program regulations at state/federal levels.
• Prepare food safely, appealingly, and hygienically.
• Maintain sanitation of work area and equipment.
• Prepare food in proper quantities at the right time.
• Assist with filling vacant cook positions as directed.
• Follow recipes, tasks, and department policies.

Employment Group is seeking a dependable Assistant School Cook to support cafeteria operations within a local school district. This position is responsible for food preparation, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, and ensuring students receive quality meals in a safe and welcoming environment.

What You'll Do

• Computes and adjusts recipes and properly prepares food items in correct quantities.
• Operate and maintain a variety of commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, steamers, mixers, slicers, kettles, scales, and computerized point-of-sale systems.
• Understands and follows the regulations and goals of the Child Nutrition Program set forth on the State and Federal level.
• Prepares food in a safe, eye-appealing and appetizing manner.
• Responsible for sanitation of work area and proper care of equipment.
• Prepares proper quantity of food at the proper time.
• Responsible for assisting fill vacant positions at or below the cook level on a temporary basis as directed by a manager or director.
• Follows oral and written instructions including but not limited to recipes, daily tasks, and department policies.
• Performs tasks involving moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, pulling, standing for long periods and bending.
• Understands, knows, and practices the Health Department regulations.
• Performs all other duties, as needed or assigned including washing dishes.

What You'll Bring

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must possess a valid ServSafe Certification or approved sanitation credential and provide proof of certification.
• Previous food service, cafeteria, restaurant, or institutional cooking experience.
• Ability to read and follow recipes, instructions, and department procedures.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving carrying, pushing, pulling, standing for extended periods, and bending.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures.
• Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, and community members.
