Job summary

Employment Group seeks an Assistant School Cook in Okemos, MI to support cafeteria operations within a local school district. This role focuses on food preparation, safety, and ensuring students receive quality meals in a safe environment.

The position requires following health regulations, maintaining sanitation, and working with a team in a fast-paced setting. This contract-to-hire role offers opportunities to grow within the school food program.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid ServSafe Certification or approved sanitation credential.
• Food service/cafeteria experience preferred.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and procedures.
• Basic math skills (add/subtract/multiply/divide).
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand long periods.
• Able to work in varying temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Compute and adjust recipes and prepare food in correct quantities.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment (ovens, steamers, mixers, slicers, kettles, scales, POS).
• Follow Child Nutrition Program regulations at state/federal levels.
• Prepare food safely, appealingly, and hygienically.
• Maintain sanitation of work area and equipment.
• Prepare food in proper quantities at the right time.
• Assist with filling vacant cook positions as directed.
• Follow recipes, tasks, and department policies.
