SCHEDULE: Full Time SEASONAL

FUNCTION: The Salvation Army Learning Center Assistant Teacher will coordinate the daily operation of the SALC School Age program year-round.

Responsibilities

DUTIES:

  • The Assistant School Age Teacher assists the Lead School Age Teacher in coordinating the school age program, including thematic lesson planning aligned with Step Up To Quality and Ohio Content Standards, bus scheduling, and overseeing the summer program.
  • Promotes a strong partnership between parents, teachers, and children through professional communication, recognizing parents as the child's first teachers.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Maintains punctuality and notifies the Director of absences.
  • Maintains a professional appearance according to The Salvation Army Dress Code.
  • Collaborates with the team to ensure a quality program.
  • Follows the classroom schedule and responsibilities to maintain a developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Attends required in-service trainings and stays informed about current early childhood issues.
  • Supports the Lead Teacher in child assessments and screenings within specified timeframes.
  • Adheres to state licensing policies and Salvation Army policies.
  • Reports issues to the Director promptly.
  • Works cooperatively with partner agencies like 4C for Children, PRC, and ODJFS.
  • Flexible to change in hours or duties as needed.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Plans and implements developmentally appropriate activities aligned with Ohio Content Standards, including language, art, music, science, math, social-emotional, and physical development, with weekly lesson plans submitted to the administrator.
  • Ensures a safe, healthy, and emotionally supportive environment.
  • Adjusts environment and lesson plans based on Step Up To Quality and 4C recommendations.
  • Maintains the physical environment and reports maintenance needs.
  • Follows cleaning schedules to keep the kitchen and classroom areas clean.
  • Maintains necessary records such as attendance, health checks, USDA reports, and inventory.
  • Assists with meal and snack setup, service, and cleanup.
  • Engages actively with children during hours of supervision; completes paperwork and planning during designated times.
Qualifications
  • Some experience with children or in early childhood education preferred.
