THE ROLE
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Sales Manager to inspire and guide our sales team in a luxury jewelry retail environment. Reporting to the Sales Director, this role is centered on driving sales, elevating the client experience, and managing day-to-day store operations. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with a passion for fine jewelry, exceptional customer service skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

To excel in this role, the candidate must have in-depth knowledge of diamonds, fine jewelry, and custom designs, with the expertise to support and advise sales associates as needed. They should be a quick learner, capable of adapting to the fast-paced environment and acquiring new skills through exposure to daily operations and the mentorship of a talented team. A deep understanding of jewelry is essential to confidently guide the sales team and deliver an unparalleled client experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales Leadership & Client Experience

  • Lead by example on the sales floor, actively participating in selling and contributing to the store's revenue.
  • Demonstrate expertise in diamonds, colored stones, repairs, and custom designs to deliver a seamless luxury experience.
  • Drive client engagement through personalized service, relationship building, and effective use of client outreach tools.
  • Support and motivate the sales team to meet and exceed goals by providing coaching, guidance, and resources.
  • Provide a luxury client experience that is welcoming and inclusive, ensuring every client—whether purchasing a small item or a significant piece—receives the same exceptional level of service and attention.

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily sales floor operations to ensure a smooth, sales-focused environment during selling hours.
  • Maintain open communication with all departments to align on company goals and enhance the client experience.
  • Ensure proper merchandising, cleanliness, and security measures on the sales floor.

Team Development & Coaching

  • Train and develop the sales team in relationship selling, product knowledge, and adherence to store procedures.
  • Conduct in the moment coaching with team members to review performance, set goals, and address challenges.
  • Provide constructive feedback and collaborate with the Store Director to develop action plans for team improvement.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on achieving sales and delivering exceptional service.

Professionalism & Brand Representation

  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, communication, and actions, aligning with the luxury brand image.
  • Uphold company values, policies, and procedures, maintaining a company-first mindset in all decision-making.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts to build a pipeline of talented sales associates.

Environment & Visual Standards

  • Ensure showcases are clean, organized, and merchandised to brand standards daily.
  • Monitor inventory and back stock trays to ensure readiness for client previews.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

Experience:

  • Proven retail sales experience in fine jewelry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within fine jewelry retail, such as Team Leader, Assistant Manager or Supervisor.
  • Extensive knowledge of diamonds, fine jewelry, and custom designs (i.g. bridal), with the effectively advise and support sales associates

Education:

  • Highschool diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Business Administration, Marketing, Retail Management, or Fashion Merchandising, or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Certifications such as Applied Jewelry Professional (AJP), Graduate Diamonds Diploma (GDD), or Graduate Gemologist (GG) from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or equivalent institutions.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency with client management systems and retail tools, including but not limited to Clientbook and POS systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

  • Work Location: Onsite in New York, NY.
  • Workdays & Hours: Tuesday – Friday: Core hours 11:00am – 7:00pm
  • Saturday: Core hours 11:00am – 6:00pm
  • The individual will be responsible for managing a closing shift.

  • Compensation: Base salary of $100,000 - $110,000, commensurate with experience, plus performance-based bonuses.
