Job summary

We Do Life… Together (WDLT) is seeking an Assistant Program Manager for the 2nd shift to oversee group homes in the Naugatuck area and support the Residential Program Manager in delivering person-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with DDS, agency, and regulatory policies.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and complete documentation on time.
  • Utilize company systems and training staff to use them correctly.
  • Operate on second shift with potential on-call responsibilities.

Assistant Program Managers keep our group homes running when the Residential Program Manager can't be everywhere at once. In this floating, 2nd shift role, you'll step into whichever home needs support that day, partnering with the Residential Program Manager to make sure every individual in your care has what they need to live their best life.

This is a role for someone who leads with both heart and structure, someone who is organized, adaptable, and able to build trust quickly with individuals, staff, and partners alike, even when stepping into an unfamiliar home. You'll need a solid grasp of Connecticut DDS regulations and policy, and the kind of communication skills that keep a team aligned across every shift. You'll report to the Residential Project Coordinator, with real opportunities to grow toward a Residential Program Manager role. This position operates on a Tuesday through Saturday Schedule, providing vital leadership support during peak evening hours.

What You’ll Do
Group Home Oversight and Management
  • Partner with the Residential Program Manager to support the daily operations and management of one or more group homes.
  • Help build and manage staff schedules to maintain 24/7 coverage and required supervision ratios.
  • Maintain the group home according to all guidelines, including the physical site, finances, and related requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all DDS, agency, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Help develop and implement effective operational procedures as needed.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Use all company systems, software, and processes as required, and make sure staff use them correctly.
  • 2nd shift, nights, weekends with on call responsibilities.
Individuals’ Care
  • Ensure the needs of the individuals are met consistently and in accordance with their plan so they can live their best lives, including medical, behavioral, vocational needs, and transportation.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating individuals' plans as needed, in accordance with state and agency requirements.
  • Assist and instruct individuals in the program with activities of daily living and community participation.
  • Provide direct care coverage, as needed.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Residential Program Manager or Director of Residential Services.
  • Assist in overseeing a team of Direct Support Professionals, including scheduling, performance management, and employee development.
  • Make sure team members always have the required trainings and certifications, and that training records stay up to date and complete.
  • Assist with leading team meetings and facilitate staff training as needed, ensuring the team has what it needs to succeed.
Business Partner Relationships and Communication
  • Establish successful working relationships with supporting and sister teams and departments.
  • Communicate regularly with the management team on program performance, successes, and issues.
  • Partner with other leaders and administrative team members to share expertise and insights.
  • Identify and participate in projects and initiatives that contribute to long-term excellence and individual growth.
Program and Organizational Contribution
  • Develop an understanding of how each department and team across the Company connects to individual outcomes.
  • Perform special projects and assignments as needed.
  • Use technology for the completion of specified job duties.
  • Perform on-call duties as assigned, responding to on-site emergencies as needed.
  • This is a 2nd shift floating position; your work location may vary based on which program needs support at a given time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsAdditional Required Responsibilities
  • Local travel using company vehicles is required; a valid driver's license and clean driving record are needed.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work 2nd shift, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is a floating position; work locations may vary day to day based on which program needs assistance.
  • Required participation in a rotating on‑call staffing schedule.
  • Must be able to perform unannounced 3rd shift spot checks at group home locations.
  • Skill‑based assessments are required for this position.

  • DDS Medication Administration Certification (required within first 6 months of employment)

Physical and Other Requirements

This role includes physical activity. You should be able to:

  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Work outdoors as program activities require.
Other qualifications include:
  • Knowledge and understanding of Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, including experience managing individual/agency relationships, regulations, funding guidelines, and program models such as CLAs, CRSs, and IHS, is a plus.
  • An associate degree, or working towards a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years' management experience, preferably in the human services field.
  • A solid command of Microsoft 365, including Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Paycom and Therap is a plus.
Other Information

This is a floating, 2nd shift position. Assignments may shift day to day based on which residential program most needs support, so the ability to adapt quickly to a new home, team, and routine is essential.

You will work closely with the Residential Program Manager assigned to each home you support.

Priority may be given to homes experiencing the greatest immediate need for supervisory coverage.
