Base pay range

$65,000.00/yr - $70,000.00/yr

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Research Computing Services, the Assistant Research Systems Engineer will work with the Columbia School of Social Work’s (CSSW) Office of Computing and Instructional Technology (OCIT) team to assist in implementing and managing a secure computing environment for researchers, faculty members, doctoral students, and administrators. Responsibilities include desktop and laptop security management, secure data management, backup solutions, technical support, and keeping abreast of IT security trends.

Responsibilities

1. Desktop/laptop support (40%): setting up, troubleshooting, repairs, end-user support, documentation, asset management, procurement, and inventory management.
2. Research computing strategy and support (30%): maintaining knowledge base, supporting web pages, technical recommendations, liaising with research and tech groups, supporting faculty and researchers, and serving as data security officer.
3. Project-specific duties (10%): performing assigned duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• 0-2 years related experience.
• Proficiency with Windows OS, command prompt, troubleshooting, networking, Active Directory, and customer service skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with changing priorities, and minimal supervision.
• Availability for weekend and off-hours work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Help desk support experience, IT certifications (A+, Network+, Security+), Mac OS proficiency, experience with research workflows, website maintenance, and IT ticketing systems like ServiceNow.
