Job summary

John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. seeks an Assistant Quality Systems Manager to support the management, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality and food safety programs at the Bainbridge facility in Georgia.

You will help develop policies, ensure regulatory compliance, and support CAPA investigations and corrective actions across cross-functional teams. You will lead through collaboration with the Quality Systems Manager, guiding performance management, training, and adherence to SQF

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field is required.
  • Minimum of four years in quality operations within a food manufacturing environment.
  • PCQI certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction, guidance, and support to the EMP Quality Supervisor, including performance management and coaching.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains quality and food safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Ensures food safety plans are maintained, verified, and updated; monitors CCPs, PCs, and prerequisite programs for compliance.
  • Leads CAPA activities and ensures timely completion and verification of effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with plant departments and senior leadership to improve quality of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Conducts SQF, regulatory, and customer audits and ensures timely resolution of findings.
  • Investigates customer complaints and provides timely responses and root cause analysis.

Job description

The Assistant Quality Systems Manager supports the management, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality and food safety programs at the Bainbridge facility. This role assists with policy development, regulatory compliance, and the investigation and support of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs). In partnership with the Quality Systems Manager, the Assistant Quality Systems Manager provides leadership and guidance to ensure adherence to quality standards, food safety requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Functions of the Position:

  • Provides direction, guidance, and support to the EMP Quality Supervisor, including performance management, coaching, and employee development.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains quality and food safety policies, procedures, and training programs for Quality and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensures food safety plans are maintained, verified, validated, and updated as needed. Monitors Critical Control Points (CCPs), Preventive Controls (PCs), and prerequisite programs to ensure compliance with established plans and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures validation, implementation, and maintenance of prerequisite programs and critical food safety and quality limits in accordance with SQF requirements and industry best practices.
  • Leads and participates in SQF, regulatory, and customer audits, ensuring audit readiness and timely resolution of findings.
  • Investigates customer and consumer complaints, implements corrective and preventive actions, and provides timely responses, reports, and follow-up documentation. Serves as a technical resource for Customer Service when product quality concerns arise.
  • Collaborates with all plant departments and senior leadership to continuously improve the quality and safety of raw materials, work-in-process products, and finished goods.
  • Leads CAPA activities across the facility, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of corrective actions and verification of their effectiveness.
  • Supports regulatory compliance initiatives and ensures quality systems align with applicable food safety regulations, company standards, and customer requirements.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience managing quality operations within a food manufacturing environment required.
  • Working knowledge of food safety regulations, quality systems, HACCP, GMPs, and food manufacturing best practices.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience working in both food manufacturing/operations and quality control laboratory environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.
  • Ability to effectively serve as a customer advocate while balancing customer expectations with company objectives.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to interact professionally and confidently with customers, suppliers, auditors, and senior leadership.
  • Excellent problem-solving, investigative, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as business needs require.

The starting salary range for this position is $71,479-$98,284. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for performance-based incentives subject to the terms of the underlying plan.
