Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Wallingford, CT is seeking an Assistant Purchaser to support procurement activities across the project life cycle, including ordering materials and following up with vendors on shipments.

You will assist in preparing procurement packages, evaluating bids, and expediting submittals to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials for construction projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in supply chain, law or construction field.
  • Or applicable experience may substitute the degree.
  • Previous internship/consulting experience preferred.
  • Oracle Financial R12 experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically.
  • Strong attention to detail and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in procurement documents and agreements for materials.
  • Assist vendor bid evaluations of proposals and technical evaluations.
  • Prepare PO documents and submit to online purchasing app for approval.
  • Submit POs to vendors/subcontractors and log acknowledgments.
  • Assist expediting vendor submittals for design and delivery.
  • Prepare procurement status and expediting reports.
  • Source and qualify potential suppliers for required goods/services.
  • Prepare procurement packages to engineering/project specs.
  • Verify supplier pricing, quantity, reliability and experience.
  • Assist with RFP documents including drawings and specs.
  • Research pricing information and compare quotations.
  • Compile cost comparisons and analyses.
  • Assist with project procurement status/material reports.
  • Campus/community involvement preferred; GPA 3.0+ preferred.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with policies.

Description


The Assistant Purchaser assist with purchasing responsibilities throughout the project life cycle which includes ordering materials, supplies and equipment, and follow through with vendors on shipment and delivery.



  • Assist in the preparation of procurement documents and agreements for the materials needed to execute the project deliverables.


  • Assist in vendor bid evaluations of proposals and technical evaluations.


  • Prepare purchase order documents and submit purchase order information into online purchasing application for final approval.


  • Submit purchase orders to vendors/subcontractors, obtain and log order acknowledgment.


  • Assist in expediting vendor submittals to support detailed design and delivery of equipment and materials to support construction activities.


  • Assist in preparing procurement status reports and expediting reports.


  • Assist in sourcing and qualifying potential suppliers to provide required goods of service.


  • Assis in preparing procurement packages to engineering and project specifications.


  • Verify supplier pricing, quantity, reliability and industry experience.


  • Assist with compiling "Request for Proposal" (RFP) documents including documents, drawings and specifications.


  • Research pricing information, compare prices and quotations.


  • Compile and present cost comparison and analysis.


  • Assist with Project Procurement Status Material Status Reports.


  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.


  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.


  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Complies with all policies and standards.



Qualifications



  • Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management, Law or Construction related field required.


  • Or applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.


  • Previous internship and/or related consulting experience Preferred


  • Oracle Financial R12 software experience preferred.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills.


  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).


  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.


  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.


  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Compensation


$70,000.00-105,000.00 Yearly


The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
