Job summary

MEI Industrial Solutions seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Manager and Sales team in estimating, securing, and managing machinery moving and rigging jobs from inception through completion.

Responsibilities include reviewing plans, coordinating with estimators and operations, managing costs, and leading cross-functional teams across facilities, operations, or administration. Must be able to travel to client sites and lead multi-phase projects.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, procedures, and risks.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, supervisory and project management skills.
  • Experience with job costing, general construction accounting & fiscal responsibility of projects.
  • Project Scheduling – able to use scheduling platforms such as MS Project for large projects.
  • Highly self-directed and motivated; works effectively on a team or independently.
  • Suitable knowledge including machine assembly, erection, layout, leveling and alignments.
  • Must be able to work alongside field technician in assembly and erecting machine tools.
  • Problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with peers around priority and design.
  • Ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict in early stages.
  • Ability to regularly participate and contribute to department and team meetings.
  • Proficient skills with the MS office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook); some CAD, Blue Beam Revu, SketchUp or similar.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SharePoint.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and other technical documents, answer questions regarding the scope and/or timing of the project, monitor costs and project progress.
  • Conduct Pre-Hand-Off Meeting with the Estimator and operations team ensuring clarity of the job scope and expectations, as well as establishing lessons learned.
  • Know and understand contract language and execute project successfully to remain in contract scope.
  • Plan, administer, and complete assigned projects across facilities, operations, or administration.
  • Manage multi-phased projects; 1 day to 6 months; may oversee 3-8 projects including bidding, planning, close-out, and spectrum phases.
  • Communicate with client/contractors/designers/subcontractors on cost, scope of work, staffing, scheduling, and change orders.
  • Collaborate to execute the project management plan; revise plans via change order process as needed.
  • Prepare project status reports and ensure plans adhere to contract specifications.
  • Coordinate safety training and investigations with estimating team and safety professionals.
  • Travel to client sites and direct all project activities onsite.
  • Develop detailed project schedules with milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and risks.
  • Lead weekly meetings to update progress and resolve issues with team and executives.
  • Maintain project files in SharePoint for continuity and historic documentation.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct as a MEI representative and uphold company values.

The Assistant Project Manager duties include identifying clients’project needs and goals, creating a detailed plan to successfully complete a project, and organizing and storing project reports and documents.

  • Responsible for working alongside the Project Manager to plan, administer, and complete assigned projects, which may cross several functional areas, such as facilities, operations, or administration.
  • Ability to manage assignments which may vary in length, complexity and are multi-phased. Project size ranges from one-day job to 6-month project, and may manage 3-8 projects to include bidding, planning, close-out, and spectrum phases.
  • Communicate directly with client/contractors/designers/subcontractors utilizing a Request for Information/Quote/Proposal (RF/Q/PI) process concerning project cost, scope of work, staffing, scheduling, and change orders.
  • Collaborate with various teams to execute the project management plan; revises & plan via a structured change order process as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Job will require some time working in standard office environment, including work at a computer terminal, and using standard office equipment. The Assistant Project Manager performs physical activities that require use of hands/arms and legs and moving the whole body. May climb, crouch/stoop, balance, traverse uneven ground or terrain, stand or walk on concrete for extended times, and lift and/or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. May work in non-climate-controlled areas with exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, or low-lit areas. Frequently travel by automobile to various project sites.
