Job Description

Turner & Townsend Heery is seeking an Assistant Project Manager responsible for medium to large-sized projects for our Houston area public school and government clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Initiate, coordinate, manage, and complete the design for all assigned projects.
  2. Ensure compliance with Design Standards, Code Compliance, Sustainability Requirements, and provide Construction Phasing and Implementation.
  3. Manage all facets of project management (budget, schedule, procurement, quality, & risk) for projects.
  4. Read, understand, and apply standard and complex documents affecting design projects, including agreements, leases, work letters, project charters, surveys, and drawings.
  5. Develop Design Task Orders based on approved scope.
  6. Gather design team proposals, review for compliance, review cost proposals, man-hour projections, schedule milestones, insurance, and legal requirements.
  7. Manage Submittal and Review Process, including Program Validation, Basis of Design, Design Documents at various stages, and the 100% Issue for Bid Sets.
  8. Implement communication plans for meetings and reports to keep clients and project resources informed.
  9. Facilitate project meetings.
  10. Implement project documentation governance aligned with company and client requirements.
  11. Ensure project data integrity and accurate, timely documentation.
  12. Track project progress against goals, budgets, and schedules; report status and variances.
  13. Create action plans to meet objectives, budgets, and schedules.
  14. Manage change requests, assess impacts, and secure client approvals.
  15. Demonstrate knowledge of projects and project management within the business context.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

*SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, applicable as required.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or similar, or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or similar, in supervising or assisting with construction projects.
  3. Facility construction experience preferred.
  4. Experience in CSA (civil, structural, architectural) and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing).
  5. Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.
  6. Skilled in data processing and analytics.
  7. Proficient with MS Excel and Projects preferred.
  8. Ability to solve complex problems and evaluate options.
  9. Expert analytical and quantitative skills with strategic development experience.
  10. Ability to read and understand architectural drawings.
  11. Knowledge of MS Project, contracts, and construction practices.
