Job summary

Muckleroy & Falls is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our Texas construction team. You will work with Project Managers and Superintendents to plan, coordinate, and execute commercial projects, taking increasing ownership of financial, operational, and client-relations aspects.

You will assist with startup through closeout, manage RFIs and submittals, and help mentor engineers and interns while developing toward a Project Manager role.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of progressive commercial construction experience.
• Experience as Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager or similar role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.

The Assistant Project Manager is an important next step in the project management career path at M&F. You will work alongside Project Managers and Superintendents to plan, coordinate, and execute commercial construction projects while taking increasing ownership of the financial, operational, and relationship aspects of the work.

This role is designed for someone who has built a strong construction foundation and is ready for greater responsibility, leadership, and exposure on the path toward becoming a Project Manager.

What You Will Do

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will help lead projects from startup through closeout while coordinating with owners, architects, consultants, trade partners, suppliers, and the M&F project team.

You Will

• Support project startup, procurement, buyout, and subcontract administration.
• Coordinate materials, equipment, subcontractors, and MEP systems.
• Partner with the Superintendent to maintain project schedules, identify constraints, and keep work moving forward.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement logs, project documentation, and other key project controls.
• Support project cost management, forecasting, subcontractor payments, change management, and owner billing.
• Understand and help enforce owner contracts, subcontracts, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Assist with or lead OAC meetings and communicate directly with owners, architects, consultants, and trade partners.
• Help identify and resolve project issues before they impact cost, schedule, quality, or client relationships.
• Support QA/QC, safety, testing, inspections, and project compliance.
• Lead portions of project closeout, including as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, and training documentation.
• Mentor Project Engineers and Interns by providing direction, prioritization, feedback, and support.
• Partner with Marketing and participate in project pursuits and interviews.
• Step into field coordination and scheduling responsibilities when needed.
• Continue developing the skills and judgment necessary to lead projects as a Project Manager.

What You Bring

• Has 3–5 years of progressive commercial construction experience, preferably with a general contractor.
• Has experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar project management role.
• Holds a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or a related field, preferred.
• Understands commercial construction processes from project startup through closeout.
• Has experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, contracts, scheduling, and document control.
• Has exposure to project financials, including cost control, subcontractor payments, forecasting, and owner billing.
• Can read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and schedules.
• Is comfortable communicating with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field teams.
• Demonstrates leadership and is willing to mentor and develop less-experienced team members.
• Takes ownership, follows through, and communicates early when something needs attention.
• Enjoys solving problems and is willing to have difficult conversations when necessary.
• Wants to continue learning and ultimately grow into greater project leadership responsibility.
• Is comfortable working on project sites and collaborating closely with field teams.
• Can support multiple priorities and projects as business needs require.
• Is willing to travel to project locations throughout Texas.

Experience with construction technology and project management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling software, and related tools is preferred.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of progressive commercial construction experience preferred, ideally with a general contractor.
• Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar project management role preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience will also be considered.
• Working knowledge of commercial construction processes from project startup through closeout.
• Experience managing or supporting RFIs, submittals, procurement, change orders, contracts, scheduling, and project documentation.
• Understanding of project financials, including cost control, forecasting, subcontractor payments, change management, and owner billing.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
• Experience coordinating and communicating with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and provide direction to Project Engineers and Interns.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to participate in or lead project meetings.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, sound judgment, accountability, and willingness to take ownership.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction technology and project management platforms; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling software, or similar tools preferred.
• Willingness to work on project sites, collaborate closely with field teams, and step into field coordination responsibilities when needed.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project locations throughout DFW, Central Texas, and other Texas markets based on project needs.
