Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to join our Civil Group who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important.

The Assistant Project Manager will partner with the project manager from bid preparation through final client acceptance. Will also lead, coach, and mentor project team members. The Civil Group does the excavation work for our renewables and site development teams.

Location: Any home base location in the U.S.

Travel: Candidates must be willing to travel anywhere throughout the United States (with regular rotations home every month). 100% travel required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform cost control and financial management
  • Work with Preconstruction on project estimate and schedule
  • Coordinate scopes of work
  • Review and compile pay applications, change requests, and other project financial documentation
  • Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive
  • Contract administration and management
  • Award subcontracts
  • Provide direction to the project team for safe and timely project completion
  • Act as liaison for project engineers, mentor, and coach others
  • Provide job assignments and manage career development
  • Direct responsibilities and guide Field Engineer(s) and Project Engineer(s)
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers for the project
  • Oversee budget for and make recommendations for subcontractors and trade partners
  • Lead project buyout with subcontractors and trade partners
  • Facilitate and lead meetings between subcontractors related to project coordination
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
  • Perform on-site Project Manager duties on small scope projects
  • Implement a quality plan that ensures the customer’s specified performance criteria in design and construction

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years of excavation experience
  • Experience with large self-perform excavation projects preferred
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Preference for candidates with experience in one or more of the following: commercial construction, renewable energy project development, EPC contracting, or emerging technologies
  • Proven ability to assist with all responsibilities for large excavation projects
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Possess a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • 100% travel required, with rotations home monthly.

The base pay range for this role is $99,500 - $134,300. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.

  • Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, O-1, TN, CPT, OPT, etc.). We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
