Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Project Manager I to join our Civil Group. The ideal candidate can interact with various staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. They should have the aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise, along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important.


The Project Manager will provide overall leadership and direction to a project, including managing project quality, timeliness, and safety, as well as mentoring the project team. Developing and enhancing customer relationships by providing excellent service is also key. The Civil Group handles excavation work for our renewables and site development teams.


Current Locations: Any home base location in the U.S.


Travel: This is a 100% travel position, with locations varying based on project needs. Mortenson hires for a career, not just for a project. Upon project completion, you will be assigned to another project.


Responsibilities include:


  1. Managing the overall financial health of projects
  2. Supporting and potentially leading EPC contract negotiations with customers, including assembling technical exhibits and project schedules
  3. Leading vendor procurement and bid/award phases for all major subs and suppliers
  4. Developing and maintaining project financial and equipment projections, determining cost codes, and approving invoices
  5. Allocating project estimates into the financial system
  6. Providing financial and billing information to accounting for timely payments
  7. Creating monthly owner billings
  8. Managing and developing Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers, including approving timecards, providing feedback and coaching

Qualifications:


  1. Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience
  2. Minimum six years of relevant experience
  3. Experience with large self-perform excavation projects preferred
  4. Supervisory and leadership experience preferred
  5. Experience in commercial construction, renewable energy project development, EPC contracting, or emerging technologies is a plus
  6. Site development experience with data centers is preferred
  7. Proven ability to manage large excavation projects
  8. Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks
  9. Basic understanding of construction law and business practices
  10. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, project management, and web applications
  11. Current driver's license
  12. Willingness to travel 100%, with monthly home rotations

Pay Range: $110,700 - $166,100, with higher ranges for certain locations (Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Washington, D.C.). Actual pay depends on experience and internal equity.
