Qualifications

  • Ability to manage priorities under deadlines and conditions.

Job description

We are seeking a Assistant Construction Project Manager to support the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, construction coordinators, contractors, and stakeholders to manage scope, costs, schedules, quality, and risk while meeting safety and environmental objectives. Responsibilities also include project reporting, and development of policies, procedures, and training materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Delivery

  • Support projects from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, closeout, and transition to the customer.
  • Coordinate project scope, resources, and deliverables to achieve safety, cost, schedule, quality, and customer objectives.
  • Manage scope changes and align project resources to improve productivity.
  • Execute projects in accordance with industry best practices, NIPSCO organizational processes, and applicable project management guidelines and standards.

Project Controls and Reporting

  • Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and performance metrics.
  • Track project costs and progress, identify variances, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Prepare regular reports, including weekend coverage and project accrual reporting.
  • Use project management information systems (PMIS), scheduling tools, risk and cost management software, and dashboards to integrate project controls information.

Risk, Quality, and Procurement

  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks using established NIPSCO processes and tools.
  • Apply quality management practices to meet project requirements and support customer satisfaction.
  • Support procurement activities, including appropriate allocation of project risks and opportunities to third parties.
  • Coordinate with contractors to support performance, accountability, and delivery of project objectives.
  • Apply project governance practices to achieve safety and environmental requirements.

Team and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate project teams and stakeholders in accordance with established workforce policies and procedures.
  • Communicate project priorities, progress, risks, and expectations clearly.
  • Resolve conflicts, address stakeholder concerns, and align competing requirements with project objectives.
  • Apply leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills to motivate teams and support contractor performance.

Construction Program Support

  • Support onboarding, training, and program introductions.
  • Assist with developing policies, procedures, and training documentation.
  • Provide additional support to the Orbital Construction Coordinator Program Management Team as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience, or at least 5 years of project, architectural, engineering, or technical experience.
  • Experience as a Construction Manager, Project Engineer II, Senior Project Developer, or in a comparable role.
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies, processes, standards, tools, and software.
  • Proficiency with PMIS, scheduling software, risk management tools, cost management systems, and project performance reporting.
  • Understanding of project integration, scope, quality, risk, procurement, cost, schedule, resource, stakeholder, and communication management.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, conflict-resolution, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and manage competing priorities under demanding deadlines and conditions.
  • Commitment to continued development of project management knowledge and proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Schedule and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Locations eligible for this position: Valparaiso, IN, Columbus, OH, Canonsburg, PA, and Chester, VA
  • Must be able to work in construction environments involving high noise levels, dust, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and chemical hazards.
