Summary

The Assistant Project Manager oversees capital project delivery within the Metro North business unit in the MTA Construction Development (C&D) Delivery Department. Responsible for ensuring project safety, efficiency, schedule adherence, budget compliance, and conformance to project documents, contracts, policies, standards, and guidelines.

Responsibilities include monitoring project status, identifying risks and issues, assisting with management, coordination, field oversight, and inspections. Coordinates daily activities with staff, contractors, consultants, and agency forces to support safe and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor staff to deliver complex capital projects.
  • Coordinate project activities through to completion.
  • Monitor performance against baselines and pursue improvements.
  • Identify and resolve project issues and risks.
  • Recommend solutions to senior management for critical issues.
  • Manage activities to minimize impact on operations and the public.
  • Coordinate with project team, staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with standards, regulations, and policies.
  • Integrate safety and quality into project operations.
  • Manage project plans, quality plans, and work plans.
  • Coordinate with Safety and Quality Management teams.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of project documentation.
  • Monitor progress against scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate on project scope, requirements, design, procurement, and evaluation.
  • Review and approve invoices and charges.
  • Manage document control and retention.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and studies.
  • Manage staff recruitment, coaching, training, and evaluations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Project Management, Business Administration, Transportation, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • PE or RA license desirable; PMP and CCM certifications preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.
