Job description

Assistant Project Manager | Holly Springs, NC
WHO WE ARE

Founded in 1992, InServ is a full-service industrial contractor serving the life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and food and beverage industries. We specialize in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation, hygienic piping, and HVAC, serving clients throughout the Southeast from our North Carolina locations.

Our culture is built on safety, quality, continuous improvement, problem-solving, teamwork, and delivering results. We believe in knowing our craft, putting people first, and becoming trusted partners to our clients.

At InServ, you'll learn from experienced professionals while building the technical expertise, business judgment, and leadership skills needed to grow into a Project Manager.

BUILD YOUR EXPERTISE. LEARN THE BUSINESS. LEAD WHAT'S NEXT.

You’re technically minded. You ask why. You notice when the numbers don’t line up, the schedule is slipping, or a field condition doesn’t match the drawings.

You’re ready for more than simply supporting a project: you want to learn how complex industrial construction projects are actually built and, eventually, how to lead them.

At InServ, the Assistant Project Manager role is designed for someone who wants to develop into a highly capable Project Manager by working alongside experienced project leaders, field supervision, customers, subcontractors, and technical teams.

You’ll get exposure to the technical, financial, contractual, scheduling, and operational sides of construction, and learn how they all connect.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll work alongside the Project Manager and field leadership to help drive projects from planning through closeout.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Project Manager and site supervision with project planning, scheduling, budgets, and execution.
  • Coordinate contractual requirements, design drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Maintain and update project schedules and work with Construction Managers and Superintendents to identify and address schedule issues.
  • Partner with the Project Manager and field team to ensure project costs accurately reflect what is happening in the field.
  • Track project progress, organize project meetings, and prepare status reports.
  • Identify potential risks and issues—and know when to bring them forward.
  • Help develop scopes of work and support procurement, including bid preparation and analysis.
  • Prepare and manage contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Assist with change orders by gathering pricing, documentation, and field information.
  • Participate in project closeout and turnover.
  • Visit project sites to understand progress, quality, safety, and field conditions firsthand.
  • Serve as a communication link between project management and field teams.
  • Contribute ideas, ask questions, and participate in project decisions.
WHAT MAKES YOU SUCCESSFUL

You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone with the curiosity and capability to learn.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have 1–5 years of experience in construction, engineering, scheduling, or a related field.
  • Have a fundamental understanding of construction practices and project management.
  • Enjoy working with numbers, schedules, drawings, specifications, and details.
  • Naturally look for ways to solve problems rather than simply identify them.
  • Can organize competing priorities without losing sight of the details.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and field-oriented audiences.
  • Are comfortable asking questions, learning from experienced people, and eventually making decisions independently.
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and project management/scheduling software.
  • Have a four-year degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field—or equivalent education and experience.
WHERE THIS CAN TAKE YOU

The Assistant Project Manager role is designed to build the technical knowledge, project experience, business understanding, and leadership judgment necessary for advancement into positions of increasing responsibility.

Your growth will be based on what you demonstrate, not how long you've been here. If you're ready to become the person who can walk onto a complex project, understand what's happening, identify what needs to happen next, and lead the team toward the right outcome, this is where you start.

At InServ you'll find:
  • Experienced people who will teach you
  • Complex work that keeps you learning
  • A seat close to the action
  • A path to project leadership
  • Technical Depth + Business Acumen
  • Competitive compensation that rewards results
  • 401(k)
  • Paid Time Off
  • Tuition Reimbursement

InServ is proud to be equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
