Reports To: Senior Director Programs

Work Location: 420 Lexington Ave

Hours of Work: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or as required (7.5 hours/day)

Salary Range: $91,990 to $125,240

Summary

The Assistant Project Manager manages capital project delivery within the Metro North business unit in the MTA Construction Development (C&D) Delivery Department. This role involves ensuring project safety, efficiency, timeliness, budget adherence, and compliance with project documents, contractual requirements, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

The position includes monitoring project status, identifying risks and issues, assisting in management, coordination, field oversight, and inspection of capital projects, and coordinating activities with staff, contractors, consultants, and agency forces to support safe and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and mentor staff to deliver complex capital projects.
  • Coordinate project activities through to completion.
  • Monitor project performance and pursue improvements.
  • Identify and resolve project issues and risks, providing solutions to senior management.
  • Manage activities to minimize impact on operations and the public.
  • Collaborate with project teams, staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with standards, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote safety and quality in project operations.
  • Manage project plans, quality plans, and work plans, coordinating with Safety and Quality Management staff.
  • Oversee project documentation for quality and accuracy.
  • Monitor progress against scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Work with Development and Contracts teams on project scope, requirements, design, procurement, bid evaluation, change orders, and contractor evaluations.
  • Review and approve contract invoices and charges.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, research, and studies.
  • Manage staff hiring, coaching, training, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Project Management, Business Administration, Transportation, or related field. Minimum 3 years of related experience. A PE or RA license is desirable. PMP and CCM certifications are preferred.
