Job summary

The Christman Company is seeking Assistant Project Engineer Interns for its Summer Internship Program in Raleigh, NC. This role provides undergraduates with hands-on exposure to project planning and construction while supporting the project team on daily activities.

You will assist with RFIs, submittals, document control, cost tracking, scheduling, and field reporting, while observing safety practices and supporting project managers and superintendents on site.

Qualifications

• Active, full-time Sophomore–Senior student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Responsibilities

• Provides administrative and technical support to the project team.
• Assists with RFI, document control, submittals, cost tracking, and schedule updates.
• Assist in summarizing discussions and decisions from meetings with owner and subcontractors.
• Reads specifications to ensure compliance and quality.
• Assist Project Manager with inspections scheduling and log creation per Christman standards.
• Assist in updating contract drawings to reflect approved changes.
• Assist Superintendents with daily reports and progress/quality photos.
• Model safety awareness and planning and report concerns to site leadership.
• Support logistics process for safety initiatives listed in the site-specific safety plan.

The Christman Company is looking for Assistant Project Engineer Interns for the upcoming Summer Internship Program! As a valued member of our operations team, you will have opportunities to gain hands‑on experience during either project planning and/or construction phases.

What You Will Do

As an Assistant Project Engineer Intern, you play a crucial part in supporting the construction project team. Primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but not limited to:

• Provides administrative and technical support to the project team.
• Assists with Request for Information (RFI), document control and management, creation and tracking of submittals, cost tracking, and schedule updated.
• Assist in summarizing important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.
• Reads through and understands specification books to ensure compliance and project quality.
• Assist the Project Manager with identifying necessary inspections, create project‑specific inspection log according to Christman standards, establish relationships with inspectors, schedule inspections, and ensure readiness for inspection.
• Assist in updating contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractor document updates.
• Assist Superintendents with daily reports and manage all progress and quality photos.
• Model safety awareness and planning at all times while observing safety practices and report any concerns to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
• Supports the logistics process for all safety initiatives listed in the site‑specific safety plan.

What You Will Bring To The Team

Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:

• Active, full‑time Sophomore‑Senior level student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, And Skills For This Role Include

• Previous work or internship experience in the commercial construction industry.
• Shows participation and/or leadership roles in student organizations or extracurricular club activities.
