Job description

Assistant Professor to Associate Professor (Waste Management)

Position Type: Full‑time faculty, nine‑month appointment, with potential for a three‑year tenure track or non‑tenure track contract.

Location: University of Guam – Water & Environmental Research Institute.

Salary: Assistant Professor: $52,408 – $105,140 per academic year; Associate Professor: $58,369 – $115,705 per academic year. Salary will be prorated if employment starts after the standard academic cycle.

Responsibilities

• Establish and lead an active research program in solid and hazardous waste management, including landfill design, gas flux, leachate controls, recycling, and their impact on surface water and groundwater.
• Secure external funding and collaborate with co‑investigators from outside institutions and local partners.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and graduate research assistants.
• Conduct research projects and deliver scientific results through publications, presentations, and reports.
• Contribute to graduate instruction in the university’s Environmental Science Program; advise thesis research and mentor Master’s students.
• Perform site visits to water resources throughout the island; a valid driver’s license is required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering/Science, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or an equivalent foreign institution.
• Early to mid‑career waste‑management specialist with experience and interest in water pollution and resource protection.
• Commitment to long‑term work at WERI and the University of Guam.
• Willingness and capability to teach online.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience in developing and teaching online learning programs.
