  • Teach MLS courses; preferred Immunohematology and Molecular Diagnostics.
  • Contribute to accreditation and program assessment activities.
  • Deliver evidence-based, student-centered instruction and provide timely feedback to students.
  • Engage in committee work, curriculum development, and student recruitment.

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced AssistantProfessor - Teaching, B.S. Applied Health Sciences/MedicalLaboratory Science at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
  • Teach undergraduate courses within the Bachelor of Science inApplied Health Sciences program, with an emphasis on professionaldevelopment, healthcare professions, medical terminology,pathophysiology, and related applied health sciences content thatprepares students for career and graduate study in the healthprofessions.
  • Teach courses in the Medical Laboratory Science program in areasof expertise and other related content areas as needed. Preferreddisciplines: Immunohematology and Molecular Diagnostics
  • Meet program accreditation qualifications that include adequateknowledge and proficiency in the discipline content area and teacheffectively at the appropriate level.
  • Contribute and assist program director with accreditationcompliance
  • Participate in professional development activities thatcontribute to continual learning in the MLS field as well aspersonal teaching advancements.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction using evidence-based andstudent-centered teaching practices.
  • Foster student learning and success through effective teachingand engagement.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain course materials, assessments, andlearning activities that support program and institutional learningoutcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructivefeedback.
  • Maintain regular office hours and provide mentoring tostudents.
  • Support student success, retention, and progression towardgraduate and professional healthcare programs and careers.
  • Participate in curriculum review, program assessment, strategicplanning, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Incorporate instructional technologies and innovative teachingstrategies to enhance student learning.
  • Participate in program, departmental, college, and universitycommittees and governance activities.
  • Attend and contribute to department meetings, faculty meetings,and program-related events.
  • Assist with student recruitment, open houses, and communityoutreach activities.
  • Engage with alumni, professional organizations, and communitypartners as appropriate.
  • Support program assessment and strategic planning.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote student engagement,academic excellence, and the mission of the department andcollege.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of ateaching-focused faculty appointment.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree, or the ability to earn a master’s degree withinthree years
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • MLS(ASCP) or equivalent certification required
  • Minimum of three years of clinical practice experience in medicallaboratory science
Preferred qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
