Job summary

Santa Fe College is seeking a nine-month Assistant Professor for the Surgical Technology program to promote student success through quality instruction and real-world learning experiences. The role will develop and teach coursework in anatomy, pharmacology, surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and clinical practicum across various formats.

Located primarily at the Northwest Campus, with potential assignments at other SF locations and day/evening/online teaching options.

Qualifications

• Faculty/instructional staff must be effective in teaching and knowledgeable in the designated content area.
• Graduate of an education program in Surgical Technology accredited by a national accrediting agency; credential in Surgical Technology through a national certifying body.
• Minimum two years of operating room scrub experience or instructional experience in Surgical Technology within the past five years.

Job Description

The Allied Health Programs at Santa Fe College (SF) is seeking anine (9) month Assistant Professor for the Surgical Technologyprogram to promote and encourage student success through qualityinstruction and real-world learning experiences.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor will develop,prepare, and teach a variety of coursework in surgical technologyincluding anatomy, pharmacology, surgical procedures andinstruments, aseptic technique, medical terminology and clinicalpracticum. This position will be housed primarily at the NorthwestCampus but may be assigned to one of the College’s six locationsthroughout Alachua and Bradford counties. Candidates must have theflexibility to teach courses during the day, evening, or online, aswell as taught using other distance learning formats. This positionhas a 9-month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in theFall and 15 credit hours in the Spring. Summer instructionalopportunities may be available for additional compensation basedupon departmental need.

This position’s starting salary is $50,549 annually. Any salaryamount above this is commensurate upon an individual’squalifications.

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

• Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic,laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student successwithin a community college setting.
• Supports and promotes the college and departmental missionscentered on excellence in teaching and learning through qualityinstruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.
• Collaborates with the Chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate,revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates the mastery ofcourse content.
• Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in thedelivery of instruction.
• Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academicteam.
• Assists with the implementation of college policies,objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy,mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.
• Participates in departmental meetings and collegewidecommittees as needed.
• Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clearfeedback regarding academic performance.
• Appropriately documents student progress and maintains recordsincluding attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.
• Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students’progress in achieving the stated learningoutcomes/objectives.
• Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to theinstructional assignment.
• Keeps a record of operating procedures and may share positionspecific knowledge, including use of collegewide ERP and relatedsystem processes, by providing guidance on standard operations andestablished departmental procedures as needed.
• Provides service to the college through participation inevents, committees, and other college activities.
• Complies with all published College Rules, procedures,guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees,including but not limited to those related to document retentionand destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
• Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality ofrecords and other sensitive information according to appropriatestate, federal, and college regulations, policies, andprocedures.
• Provides service excellence through courteous, informed,accessible, and professional engagement.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Faculty/instructional staff must be effective inteaching and knowledgeable in subject matter as documented byappropriate professional credential(s)/certification(s), education,and experience in the designated content area. Faculty withinstructional responsibilities in core surgical technology coursesmust be a graduate of an education program in surgical technologyaccredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditationagency; and possess a credential in the field of surgicaltechnology through a national certification program that isaccredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies(NCCA); and have a minimum total of two (2) years of experience,either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor insurgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five(5) years.

Additional Requirements:

A criminal background check anddrug screening will be conducted. Documentation of immunizationsand Basic Life Support certification are required.

Preferred:

A bachelor's degree and a certification incentral service processing.
