Job summary

The Department of Political Science and Master of Public Administration (MPA) in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2027.

As a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, from your duty-point in Lubbock, you will be expected to:



  • contribute to the teaching mission of the department and providing in-person and online courses; teach graduate-level core and elective courses for the Master of Public Administration program; teach undergraduate public administration and political science courses for the undergraduate Public Administration minor and Political Science major.

  • develop a record of peer-reviewed research in Public Administration, and/or other closely-related disciplinary academic outlets; apply for external funding.

  • provide service to the department and Master of Public Administration; mentor MPA students through serving on MPA portfolios.


Required qualifications include:


  • A Ph.D. in public administration, political science, or a closely related discipline is required by September 1, 2027.

  • Ability to teach MPA core and electives courses (in-person and online) in the MPA curriculum, particularly Public Budgeting, Public Financial Management, Grant-Writing, and/or data science/management.

  • Ability to teach undergraduate public administration and political science courses (in-person and online) for the public administration minor and political science major.

  • Evidence of an active research agenda as evidenced by publications, works under review, works in progress, and/or grant activity.

  • Willingness to serve on MPA program committees and on student portfolios.


In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:


  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

  • Record of published research in Public Budgeting, Public Financial Management, Grant-Writing, and/or data science/management.

  • Interest in engagement with MPA program stakeholders at organized program events.
