The Department of Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Combinatorics or Probability. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Mathematics and conducting research in their field.

We are a collaborative and interactive department. We pursue original investigations in Differential Geometry, Partial Differential Equations, Functional Analysis, Mathematical Physics, Algebraic Topology, Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Number Theory, Combinatorics and Algorithms, Category Theory, Logic and its applications to Computer Science, and several other areas of current mathematical development. The Mathematics Department is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences, which is comprised of 28 academic departments, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate Division, and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. The department offers an undergraduate major that provides students an understanding of the modern discipline of mathematics. More generally, we teach hundreds of undergraduate students and sixty grad students each year. Our graduate students often go on to become postdocs and faculty in academic institutions, and to work as applied research mathematicians for government agencies, as industry scientists working in data analysis, and as researchers in biotech companies. Our faculty also participate in cross-disciplinary undergraduate programs, such as computer science, physics, systems and mechanical engineering, and operations research and statistics in the business school.

We seek candidates who share our strong commitment to research, teaching and mentoring, and to a scholarly community shaped by values of inclusive excellence. The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania is committed to cultivating and sustaining a community of students, scholars, researchers, and staff that reflects the diversity of our world.
