Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Brandywine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, Assistant Professor of Biology, to begin August 2025 or January 2026 as negotiated. Teaching on site and on campus is an essential function of this position.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic person with a commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, a sustained research program, and active service to the University. The instructor will contribute to the success of all students, with a focus on students from historically and currently underrepresented groups in higher education and STEM fields. The successful candidate will teach 9 credit/contact hours per semester with a primary focus on introductory and intermediate-level undergraduate courses in general biology and cell biology. Upper-level teaching assignments might include courses in evolutionary biology, development, genetics, physiology, practicum, biochemistry and/or microbiology, and electives in the instructor’s area of expertise. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and/or Saturday classes using traditional, hybrid, and/or online delivery methods. Areas of instruction and/or research may include cell or molecular biology, or closely related fields.

Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Teaching 9 credit/contact hours per week
  2. Publishing research in refereed journals
  3. Participating in course, curriculum, and program development
  4. Advising students and providing career guidance
  5. Participating in campus, university, and community service activities
  6. Supervising students in undergraduate research projects
  7. Participating in professional organizations

Requirements:

  1. Ph.D. in Biology, or closely related field, by the employment start date.
  2. Successful completion of standard background checks in accordance with University policies.
