The Department of Art at Colby College invites applications for a tenure track professor in photography at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2027. A completed M.F.A., at least two years of teaching as instructor of record at the college level, and a significant record of creative scholarship are required. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to Colby's commitment to academic excellence as well as ensuring that our institution is a welcoming and inclusive place to teach, learn, and work.

The Art department at Colby brings together Studio practitioners and Art Historians and maintains a strong partnership with the Colby College Museum of Art. Photography is one of five media taught within Studio Art (together with Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, and Digital Media). The successful candidate will be responsible for the Photo concentration within the Studio Art major, teaching courses in analog B&W and digital photography from introductory through advanced levels, as well as guiding seniors through their senior capstone experience. They will teach in and manage state-of-the art facilities on the top floor of the Colby Museum of Art's Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion. Faculty at Colby teach 4.5 courses a year, which in the art department is usually distributed as 9 courses over 2 years.

Applicants should submit the following materials: a cover letter explaining your interest and qualifications, curriculum vitae, names and contact information of three references (letters of recommendation to be requested at short list stage), statement of teaching philosophy and research interests, three syllabi (including examples for courses in B&W analog and digital representing introductory through advanced coursework), and 20 examples of your visual work. 20 examples of student work should also be included with the application. Materials should be sent via Interfolio at apply.interfolio.com/196640. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2027.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $92,700 to $96,700, commensurate with rank, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
