Ball State University’s Department of Architecture seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor available starting August 2027. The primary focus is design studio instruction at both undergraduate and graduate levels, complemented by lecture/seminar courses in the candidate's areas of focus.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate current and advanced design methods, and strong visual communication and representation skills, with a commitment to inclusive excellence and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Must have Master of Architecture by time of appointment.
  • Bachelor of Architecture with post-professional master’s degree in architecture or allied discipline by time of appointment.
  • Preferred licensure in architecture or a PhD in architecture.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and active scholarship (research/creative work).
  • Track record in professional practice and service; design studio teaching.

Responsibilities

Major responsibilities lie mainly within the area of design studio instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as lecture/seminar courses in the candidate's areas of focus. The Department of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate architecture programs that emphasize the education of architecture students through design studio, engagement with social and environmental issues, immersive and experiential learning, digital fluency and design computation, high performance building design, building systems and assemblies, historic preservation, digital fabrication, and critical practice in the pursuit of preparing the next generation of leaders in architecture.Duties & Responsibilities:This position carries a standard 12-credit academic workload per semester, structured as a 9-credit teaching load (typically one studio plus a 3-credit course) and a 3-credit research allocation dedicated to active scholarship and publication.Minimum Qualifications:1. Master of Architecture degree by time of appointment OR;2. Bachelor of Architecture degree with post-professional master’s degree in architecture or allied discipline from an accredited college or university by time of appointment.Preferred Qualifications:Professional licensure in architecture OR; a PhD in architecture.
