Position Overview

The primary responsibilities for this 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication include teaching undergraduate-level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities, and all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, College, and University as needed.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The Department has over 430 majors. The mission of the Department is to prepare students with a high-quality education necessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers and to become productive citizens of their communities, the nation, and the world. We cultivate diversity, interdisciplinary learning, creativity, freedom of expression, mutual respect, ethical conduct, social responsibility, and expertise in journalism and mass communication.

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members.

N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 15,275 students in Fall 2026, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs. Minimum Requirements

Candidates must have Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, media or in a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline.
