Assistant Professor of International Studies (Latin American Studies)

The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university located in Houston, Texas, the nation's fourth-largest city, committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of International Studies (Latin American Studies) housed in the Department of Political Science, International Studies, and Modern Languages.

The Department of Political Science, International Studies, and Modern Languages at the University of St. Thomas is a multidisciplinary program providing quality education to the next generation of global leaders. The Department consists of ten full-time faculty members and offers eight undergraduate programs, including Political Science, Pre-Law, International Studies, Global Cybersecurity, Diplomacy, East Asia Studies, Latin American Studies, and Spanish, as well as its own graduate programs, the Master's in Diplomacy & Strategic Affairs (MDSA) and Master's in Public Policy and Public Administration (MPPA).

We seek candidates with teaching and research expertise in Latin American studies, broadly defined, with disciplinary backgrounds in the social sciences or humanities. The ability to contribute to Spanish-language instruction is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will strengthen the Department's curricular and scholarly coverage of Latin America while contributing to its interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant social science or humanities field by the time of appointment and demonstrate teaching experience in related areas. Evidence of sustained academic, professional, research, or field engagement with Latin America is highly desirable. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in the candidate's area of specialization as well as broader courses in Latin American Studies, International Studies, and, where qualified, Spanish language.

The start date for the position is Fall 2027. The candidate must have a degree in hand by the start date.
