REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A master's degree in construction or a construction-related field from an accredited institution.
• 5 years of relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience. Individuals with an earned doctorate in construction or a construction-related field shall receive credit for the equivalent of two years of professional construction experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university levels.
• Specialization in a scholarly area that addresses topics applicable to the construction industry and demonstrated ability and commitment to pursue scholarly activities.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the written and oral use of the English language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A PhD or doctoral degree in construction or a construction-related field.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly activities that contribute to the field of construction management.
• Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry.
• 3 years of relevant professional experience in project management or a supervisory capacity.
• Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
• A teaching specialization in one of the following areas, but not limited to: industrial construction, defense/marine facilities, renewable energy systems, MEP building systems, and data centers.

The two-semester sequence will constitute the regular academic year appointment. Faculty may also be eligible to teach in the third semester for additional compensation, subject to departmental needs and University policy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Construction Management Department is one of five departments in Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. It offers an ACCE-accredited, 4-year Bachelor of Science in Construction Management degree program, a minor in Construction Management, and sponsors interdisciplinary minors in Heavy Civil Construction and Real Property Development. The Department maintains close ties with industry and takes pride in its career-oriented programs focused on practical application. As part of the college’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, Construction Management partners with Architecture, Architectural Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, and Landscape Architecture. The Department currently has 19 full-time faculty, 12 part-time faculty and over 500 undergraduate majors.
